Services at Solace Therapeutic Massage
This page provides a description of the types of therapeutic bodywork Erin Hartman practices and integrates into sessions based on individual needs. The online scheduling allows you to choose Stone Massage, Integrated Positional Therapy (IPT), Lymphatic Drainage or Reflexology.
STONE MASSAGE refers to my use of marble, agates, quartz, jade and basalt stones during massage sessions. My training includes Swedish Massage, deep tissue and medical massage techniques, Inyan Mani (stone walking), Ho'omana Lomi Lomi that follows in the lineage of the Big Island Style (Hawaiian massage), Joint Mobility and Acupressure rooted in Zen Shiatsu. Stone temperatures vary to help balance energies. This type of massage has circulatory, lymphatic, energetic and deep tissue benefits.
"Erin is a true healer. I never thought I'd be able to run a 1/2 marathon after taking a serious fall at my age, but her healing touch made it possible...." LuAnn C. (Facebook)
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE uses moderate to firm strokes, organic castor oil and hot/cold stones to manually reduce the size of lymphedemas and support the function of the body's lymphatic system. Lymphatic congestion in the arms and legs, especially around the shoulders and knees, sometimes mimics symptoms of rotator cuff and meniscus tears. It is also believed by some bodywork experts that "the compromised quality of [our] air, water, [and] food [could be] causing significant accumulations of metabolic waste products in our bodies (lymphatic build up).... In many cases, this accumulation of toxins causes us to feel low energy levels, fatigue and mood swings" (2006, Prilutsky).
"Erin's gentle and compassionate care is in every detail of the massage experience. She has a gift for sensitivity and listening, and her techniques pinpoint areas of tension I am often unaware I have."
--T.C. (a regular client)
Integrated Positional Therapy (IPT)
I practice Lee Albert's trademarked INTEGRATED POSITIONAL THERAPY that employs strain/counterstrain and muscle energy techniques to treat chronic muscle pain and structural imbalances. This treatment includes careful observation and evaluation of posture followed by placing the affected muscles in a position of comfort for 90 seconds. When the pain disappears or diminishes from the tender point, the stressed tissues are felt to be at their most relaxed. IPT achieves its benefits by means of an automatic resetting of muscle spindles. Relief is immediate and long lasting. These techniques are very effective in the treatment of pain due to injury, stress, repetitive strain, postural distortion, and chronic neuromuscular conditions. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Read Lee Albert's article, What is IPT and how does it work?
"Over this past year Erin's Integrated Positional Therapy techniques have provided me excellent pain relief due to arthritis in my neck." Patrick G. (Yelp filtered review)
The "Pop-In" session
Limited to clients I've seen before, this 15-minute fully-clothed session helps address a problem area that feels like it shouldn't wait until your next appointment. The POP-IN blends pin & stretch techniques with Integrated Positional Therapy to help restore range of motion and decrease pain. (If pain is acute or due to a recent injury, please consult your doctor before seeing me.) Look for "Pop-In" in the menu if you book online, or call to reserve one of these sessions.
Want Help Designing a Self-care Routine?
Lee Albert likes to say, "Stretch like a cat, not like a human," but who has the time? Well, I'd like to help you make the time! For 90-minutes, we can work together to design a 30-minute self-care routine that blends yoga poses with t'ai chi, qi gong, breathing exercises and positional therapy. This session includes print-outs with pictures to support your at-home practice. Look for "Self-care Design" in the online menu, or call to learn more.
During a FACIAL REFLEXOLOGY session, a light, unscented cream is applied to the face, and gentle but firm strokes are used to determine underlying imbalances that could be contributing to health problems. Using this assessment, an individualized session is designed to promote healing for a variety of conditions such as allergies, asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, arthritis, depression, migraines and insomnia. Facial reflexology is safe for children and adults. Some experience immediate improvements after their first visit, but changes are often noticeable for most clients after six to eight consecutive sessions.
"...The facial reflexology sessions I receive at Solace help me breathe and sleep better." --James S. (Facebook)
INTEGRATIVE REFLEXOLOGY sessions make use of gentle pressure points and massage zones for feet, hands and ears to stimulate the body's innate healing responses and promote balance. This approach is so gentle, even babies and young children can benefit from these sessions to address conditions ranging from colic, constipation, ADD and sinus congestion.
"[Erin] was kind enough to work me in last minute and did an amazing job! Such a warm atmosphere." --Sara L. (Facebook)
